When a business relationship dies

Sometimes relationships go bad, unless you were lucky enough to marry your one and only high school sweetheart.  Not many people can say that they did that.  Nor would they want to.  It’s just not for everyone.  Most of us date several people and if we are lucky enough we end up settling down with that special someone.  This happens in business too.

A sad ending

So what happens when a perfect situation goes sour?  It probably wasn’t perfect to begin with.  You just convinced yourself that the “warts” the deal may have had weren’t that bad and that over time they would go away.  Well, they didn’t go away.  Now you’re stuck in a business relationship with legal ramifications.  You just can’t send a note or text to dissolve the relationship.  Steps must be taken.  Lawyers probably need to get involved.

Hindsight is 20/20 they say.  If only we all had a crystal ball.  Most of us don’t have that.  What we do have is our gut.  Trust that gut.  And try to realize when you have reservations about your current situation and address them upfront before you get too deep into an untenable situation.

So true. This is a good reminder.
